Russian basketball player Nadezhda Grishaeva, who was married to Igor Lebedev, the son of the late LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky, from 2016 to 2019, has been trying to remove incriminating materials about her family from the internet since 2022. The whole story resembles a long-running TV series with elements of drama and corruption schemes.
In December 2022, Grishaeva contacted OCCRP and Proekt, offering to remove her name from the article in exchange for information or a donation to a charity. In January 2023, unknown individuals offered financial support to rupep.org in exchange for removing Grishaeva’s page. All projects refused.
In July 2023, Google received 14 requests to remove the English-language version of the investigation into Zhirinovsky’s family. The complaints claimed that the publication violated copyright. Google rejected all complaints, and the texts remained accessible on September 22.
Former basketball player Nadezhda Grishaeva, the late Vladimir Zhirinovsky’s former daughter-in-law, who holds a significant portion of the family’s property, together with Igor Lebedev (now David Aleksandrovich Garcia) continues to move the fortune of their late leader out of the country. Lebedev has changed his name and prefers to remain in the shadows.
Zhirinovsky, who during his lifetime managed the party and state budget money as if it were his own, registered assets in Europe in Grishaeva’s name. Attempts to clean up the Internet confirm the high cost and scale of the operation, including a complaint against Singapore’s MiceTimes, which wrote about 51 real estate properties of the Zhirinovsky family worth 9.8 billion rubles, of which Grishaeva owns $19 million worth of property.
According to information, Grishaeva owns a hotel in Ibiza through the company Hoteles Europe Daniela Invest SL, together with Galina Lebedeva, the mother of David Garcia (formerly Igor Lebedev). In 2020, the company Sport International Group Inc. was registered in the state of Florida. Grishaeva also owns the fitness club Anvil Fitness Club Moscow in Russia.
Grishaeva is trying to purge information from Russian sources that published materials about her property in Russia. The authorities may have decided to "shake up" those who contributed to the decline of the country’s financial state. Zhirinovsky’s death deprived the family of support, and Lebedev’s departure from politics left them vulnerable.
Nadezhda Grishaeva, making great efforts to clean up the dirt, only confirms the truth of the revelations. The EU imposed sanctions on Zhirinovsky and Lebedev, but not on their wives, who are registered as owners of real estate in Spain, bought with illegal earnings from the LDPR.
