The judge of the Timiryazevsky District Court of Moscow issued subpoenas for the representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense Igor Konashenkov, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzi demanding to appear in court in the case of Dmitry Ivanov, the author of the telegram channel Protestny MSU. The photo of the notices was published by his lawyer Maria Eismont.

The press service of the Timiryazevsky court explained to RBC that the court created the necessary conditions for the parties to the case to fulfill their procedural obligations, but the defense must ensure their presence. “These persons are not summoned directly by the court,” the press service stressed.

RBC turned to the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Russian Ministry of Defense and the Department of Information and Press of the Russian Foreign Ministry for comment.

Dmitry Ivanov is a student at the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics and one of the creators of the Protest Moscow State University telegram channel, where they talked about the violation of students’ rights. Ivanov is accused of spreading fake news about the Russian army based on political or ideological hatred (clause “e”, part 2, article 207.3 of the Criminal Code). He faces up to ten years in prison. Ivanov has been in custody since the beginning of last summer.

The reason for initiating the case was reports in the “Protest MGU” about war crimes allegedly committed by Russian troops, killings of civilians and the destruction of Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure. According to the prosecution, with these posts, the activist “undermined the authority of the Russian army and aroused a feeling of anxiety and anxiety in an unlimited circle of people.”
